“Risk Management and Security in Help Desk”

Virtually every call to a Help Desk has security implications. Some are patently clear when, for example, a frustrated user reports a virus infection or web site defacement, but others can be more difficult to assess when the symptoms are complex, intermittent, or subtle. In every case, Help Desk personnel have an immediate obligation to address the problem with realistic (and secure) solutions. In the longer term, they also have another equally important responsibility, to report incidents and remedial action to both operational and security authorities to support the organizational risk management program.
